چکیده

Current cosmological data indicate that our universe contains a substantial component of dark vacuum energy that is driving the cosmos to accelerate. We examine the immediate and longer term consequences of this dark energy (assumed here to have a constant density). Using analytic calculations and supporting numerical simulations, we present criteria for test bodies to remain bound to existing structures. We show that collapsed halos become spatially isolated and dynamically relax to a particular density profile with logarithmic slope steeper than −3 at radii beyond r200. The asymptotic form of the space-time metric is then specified. We develop this scenario further by determining the effects of the accelerating expansion on the background radiation fields and individual particles. In an appendix, we generalize these results to include quintessence. Subject headings: cosmology:theory — large-scale structure of universe — dark matter — dark energy

Evolution of Information and Complexity in an Ever-Expanding Universe

Using the usual definitions of information and entropy in quantum gravity and statistical mechanics and the existing views about the relation between information and complexity, we examine the evolution of complexity in an ever expanding universe.

Accelerating Universe and Cosmological Perturbation in the Ghost Condensate

In the simplest Higgs phase of gravity called ghost condensation, an accelerating universe with a phantom era (w < −1) can be realized without ghost or any other instabilities. In this paper we show how to reconstruct the potential in the Higgs sector Lagrangian from a given cosmological history (H(t), ρ(t)). This in principle allows us to constrain the potential by geometrical information of t...

Testing Cosmic Acceleration with Type Ia Supernovae

We discuss recent evidence for an accelerating Universe from measurements of type Ia supernovae at high redshift, and describe tests of various systematic effects such as extinction and evolution that could be biasing the cosmological result. Continued observations of these objects, both over a wider wavelength region and at higher redshift, should provide strong evidence in favor or against th...

Transition from decelerated to accelerated cosmic expansion in braneworld universes

Braneworld theory provides a natural setting to treat, at a classical level, the cosmological effects of vacuum energy. Non-static extra dimensions can generally lead to a variable vacuum energy, which in turn may explain the present accelerated cosmic expansion. We concentrate our attention in models where the vacuum energy decreases as an inverse power law of the scale factor. These models ag...
